A Bit About Me

A/Plt Off Thorne joined the Air Cadets in 2016 at 1237 (North Hykeham) Sqn.  There he represented his Sqn as part of the Drill team within 6 months of joining. He went on no fewer than 12 camps meeting multiple members of the Royal Family as well as senior Officers from Air Forces around the world reaching the rank of Cadet Sergeant.

In 2019 he moved to Hull for University, transferring to 872 (Hull West) Sqn. There he took up the responsibility for training new Cadets. However, the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold to face-to-face activities. Not to be deterred, A/Plt Off Thorne continued to attend Virtual Parades over Microsoft Teams with 872 (Hull West) Sqn & 152 (City of Hull) Sqn, occasionally presenting PowerPoints on topics such as Aircraft Recognition and Photography. This was also a period of transition for him as he aged out as a Staff Cadet.

After a short period of absence he returned as a Civilian Instructor with 152 (City of Hull) Sqn before joining 399 (Beverley) Sqn as its Training Officer and Deputy OC. A/Plt Off Thorne is always most at home in the classroom, teaching Cadets and helping them to develop as young adults. 'Firm but Fair' he expects high standards but is always there for Cadets if they have any issues or need to talk. He has recently gained his Cadet Forces Commission (CFC) and has moved over to the role of Adjutant.

Outside of Cadets A/Plt Off Thorne is an Emergency Medical Dispatcher with East Midlands Ambulance Service and has a passion for photography and aviation.
